Know Your Meme



In May, it will have been 40 years since Star Wars blasted onto movie screens and into the bloodstream of the world at large. Among the fans of The Dark Knight films, sheev posting typically takes the form of image macros and photoshopped parodies based on still images of the character as portrayed in the franchise, most notably scenes from Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith wherein Palpatine reveals himself as a Sith Lord.

There have been billion-dollar businesses, superstar actors and actresses, and singers who can bring hundreds of thousands of people to concerts all around the globe regardless of where they go. There have been TV series that make people chew off their nails day after day just waiting for the Sunday when the next episode comes out.

So, a scene depicting a heartbroken Kenobi who turns off a security hologram of his pupil Anakin killing children, transforms into an annoyed Kenobi turning off a screening of The Last Jedi (2017), the Star Wars film most daring in its condemnation of Star Wars' own problematic themes, and therefore the most notorious in prequel meme circles.

Darth Vader is one of the most iconic characters in the history of cinema. May fourth maybe Star Wars day, but the Sith have the sixth to look forward too. While, of course, Scooby Doo may not be of the same magnitude as members of the Star Wars franchise, he is still a legendary pop-culture landmark that is more than deserving of accolade.

But no one can deny that Darth Sidious had some of the best lines in all of the movies. And what Steam better way to pay homage to pretty much everything Star Wars than with an endless array of memes. The Star Wars franchise has always been a tremendous box office draw, and Star Wars Episode VII, The Force Awakens was no different in that regard.

For those who have never seen a single Star Wars episode (Judge you, we won't!), here's why these memes are funny AF. Also useful if you are actually a fan and just don't get the joke. And perhaps no Star Wars quote, with the exception of the high ground one, ever came close to becoming meme fuel as much as this iconic Darth Sidious quote.
